APPLE USERS BECOMING #1 TARGET in Phishing Scams
APPLE USERS BECOMING #1 TARGET in Phishing Scams
Lior Kohavi, chief technical officer and CYREN research team report that phishing scams targeting Apple users saw a dramatic upswing in Q3 of 2014. Compared with Q2, the number of unique malware samples collected by CYREN increased 35%, totaling nearly 22 million. Overall, phishing scams targeting Apple users were up 246% from the 1st quarter of 2014 - with CYREN tracking over 7,000 new Apple phishing sites in the week of the celebrity hack. This seems to coincide with anecdotal evidence we were hearing from Apple iCloud users, citing their own personal observation of more phishing and spam emails slipping into their email boxes undetected.
