Welcome to McAfee Antivirus Plus 2014 Review by Anti-Virus4U.com
A leader in the antivirus niche, McAfee rolled out McAfee Antivirus Plus 2014 in September, sticking to its AM Core scanning engine for static malware detection. Going with the trend, McAfee has also packed its entry-level antivirus with additional features such as an impressive firewall, giving it the look and feel of a fully packed security suite. However, it is not. McAfee Total Protection 2014 plays that role.
The user interface is again simple with four primary tiles, each displaying the status of various components of the antivirus, namely Virus and Spyware Protection, Web and Email protection and McAfee Updates along with one for your subscription information. You can find links to various other features and reports and help resources in the navigation menu on the right hand side.
As with its previous issues, McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2014 is more successful in detecting malwares when installed in a clean system. It in fact fares well as compared to many other antivirus programs in detecting viruses, spyware, malwares, Trojans, spams, malicious links, etc. However, there are some issues when the product is installed on a system that's already infected with malwares. McAfee’s Windows’ based bootable antivirus program, CleanBoot can help you in this regards which, unlike most other bootable antivirus that run in retro text mode, is impressively successful in detecting almost all malwares that are otherwise detected by a full scan by the main McAfee AntiVirus Plus 2014 program. McAfee provides protection on all levels, including the internet where from most malwares emerge. Its ability to detect malicious URLs is quite impressive. In cases where it cannot detect malicious URLs, it does a good job in blocking malwares on downloading from those links.
McAfee’s trademark service, SiteAdvisor, included in the AntiVirus 2014 suite, continues to grow, crawling the web for malicious links and phishing sites. SiteAdvisor is a fairly simple to use feature, that color-codes your websites according to the threat level that they possess, red for dangerous, yellow for potential threats and green for safe. A grey color signifies the site hasn’t been rated yet. Extent of protection against phishing sites is definitely a pro for the McAfee suite.
Pros:
1. Good Malware detection.
2. SiteAdvisor that maintains a database of malicious and phishing site.
3. Powerful firewall.
4. Includes additional features such as remote management, system services tune-up, file Shredder, etc.
5. CleanBoot CD can fix almost all installation issues. Customer Support can take care of the rest.
Cons:
1. Malware detection is only good. It lags behind when compared to other competing antivirus programs.
Summary:
It's not quite a perfect choice. We recommend that you try the trial version before buying. The final decision is in your hands.
